Music and Creativity
Hi, I’m tobias tinker, a Canadian-born musician, composer and writer living in Berlin, Germany. The byline for this site is ‘Music and Creativity’ and this more or less sums up what I’m all about. Music is my passion and my vocation; creativity is my abiding fascination.
This site provides a kind of curated introduction to my work in the musical field (both composition and performance) and the various creative projects I'm working on or have been involved with over the years... feel free to explore and follow links to anything that catches your fancy! But be warned: some rabbitholes are deeper than others...
If you want to get in touch, use the Contact form. If you'd like to support any of the work you see and hear on the site, there are various ways to do that - most albums have Buy buttons available, or you can go to the Store page... thanks in advance, enjoy the journey, and have a Fascinating day...
Here are some albums I've made! Displayed in random order! Because how can you choose favorites from among your babies? Click through to listen and learn more...
The ‘projects’ section highlights a number of websites and/or ongoing areas of interest or activity – things I’m working on, things I’d like to be working on more if I had more time… that kind of thing. In random order, because that’s how I roll.
Born in the countryside near Toronto, Canada in 1970, I was raised in a musical and somewhat eccentric family. Teaching myself to improvise and compose alongside more traditional lessons on piano and french horn, I eventually formed a series of bands with childhood friends and began to play and perform more seriously. Studies in jazz at Montreal's McGill University followed, along with international travel and lots more experience on stage and in the studio.
Along the way, being of a somewhat philosophical bent, I became fascinated with creativity and have since written and blogged extensively on the subject - applying my natural inclination (coming from a family full of scientists) to try to take everything apart and figure out how it works.
The albums presented here represent the bulk of my compositional output over the years, and span a number of genres - from dark ambient soundscapes to meditative jazz to solo piano explorations.
